This spell originally appeared in Llewellyn’s 2019 Witches’ Spell-a-Day Almanac.

This spell combines an everyday mundane activity and transforms it into a spell for blessing our words and speech. The “devil” referenced here is the “man in black”, the witch-father, or priest of the horned god, the magister of the coven, who represents the divine presence within all witches.

Materials:
• Your toothbrush and toothpaste
• Essential oil(s) of your choosing (tea tree, peppermint, and/or cinnamon are all good choices)

Ground and center. Apply toothpaste to your toothbrush and add a few drops of your oil(s) on top.

As you brush your teeth, mentally repeat the following, imagining the brush “activating” your mouth with divine presence as a bold, silver light:

“Devil with the silver tongue,
I call on you to charge my words
With truth and purpose, strength and might
Blessed with kindness and delight.”

“See” your mouth shining with divine light. Remember this as you go about your day.
