"The Hermit"

The Hermit represents knowledge gained by stepping away from community and turning within. Here we see depicted a man stepping out of the light of consciousness and facing the darkness of the unknown. He holds a lantern to aid his sight, the light of which is the light of his focused awareness, directed into the outer darkness. Traditionally the Hermit is an aged man, dressed in sagely robes and holding a staff. My Hermit is youthful and naked, his staff replaced with his sex which —encircled by the light of his awareness— reminds us that spiritual power and sexual sovereignty are intimately entwined.
