"Lord
Ganesh"
©2001
In
the Hindu pantheon, Ganesh is the remover of obstacles, and is
traditionally prayed to before praying to any other deity. He
is also associated with queer men, both for his soft mannerisms,
and for his sexual tastes. He is a force of compassion, and wisdom.
This
was one of my first images. I saw him emerging from the cosmos
as a force of growth and healing, as evidenced by his nontraditional
color, and the halo of earth-tones around him. In traditional
imagery he is usually depicted with one broken tusk, but in mine
he is whole again, with innocence restored he offers it to us
with outstretched arms and open handed trust.
